Table
Topics provides an opportunity for selected members to speak for
two minutes on a subject of which they have no prior warning. Therefore,
it is important for the Table Topics Evaluator to listen closely not
only what is said, but the way in which the speech is delivered.
It is generally accepted that a good speech should have a clearly defined
beginning, middle and end. However, skilled toastmasters will often
interject humor and even "freestyle" speaking patterns into
their subject, so the evaluator must focus on the delivery rather than
the content.
Watching how the speaker approaches the lectern, whether they use appropriate
eye contact and how well they address the subject are all items of which
the evaluator must be aware.
At
the end of this section of the meeting, the Table Topics Evaluator is
asked to present their report which should provide encouragement or
constructive criticism and suggestions for improvement, whichever is
appropriate.
